Super Feathers.

The Mandalay Bay Hotel in Las Vegas was the venue Saturday night for what may be in the running for fight of the year honours. Juan Manuel “El Dinamita” Marquez boxed and brawled the brave Marco Antonio “The Babyface Assassin” Barrera to win a majority decision and the WBC Super Featherweight title. Final scores were 118-109 (X2), and 120-108. Those ringside had it much closer, the culmination of a night of puzzling judging. (more…)

This afternoon at the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino in Las Vegas, two of Mexico’s greatest fighters, Marco Antonio Barrera and Juan Manuel Marquez met for the last time outside of the ring in what was the final formality before their highly anticipated WBC Super Featherweight title fight on Saturday. Decisions, decisions

I was just planning out my boxing schedule for March, something I do at the beginning of every month to ensure that I am in the right place at the right time for each important fight; whether it be in front of the TV at my favorite sports bar or at ringside in the middle of the action, or hurling foul epithets while tears stream down my face at a blank TV screen for fights I can’t see anywhere, which is the case with every single Showtime fight up here in the wilds of British Columbia. The powers that be are apparently conspiring against boxing fans in Western Canada, punishing them for a reason that I have yet to figure out, but will if it kills me. (more…)
