Calgary’s Champion

May 30, 2007 · 2 Comments

Last Saturday night, Calgarians had a chance to go the fights. Bowmont Boxing’s Doug Harder and Ginnie Brown got a crowd of about 600 people out to the Deerfoot Casino for the card which featured Calgary based fighters Albert Onolunose and Julius Odion. But before the fighting started, the people who showed up witnessed a tribute to one of the great figures in Canadian boxing.

“Cowboy” Dale Brown has retired. (more…)

Tonight in Bamberg, Germany, IBF middleweight champion “King” Arthur Abraham retained his belt with a 3rd round KO of Canadian Sebastien “Double Trouble” Demers.

May 24, 2007 · Leave a Comment

The word for underdog in French roughly translates to “défavorisé”. In German, one would say “Die unterlegen”. Those are the two languages and the one word that will be heard and repeated this week until Sebastien Demers (20-0, 9ko) steps into the ring on Saturday night when he challenges Arthur Abraham (22-0, 17ko) for the IBF middleweight title in Berlin, Germany. LIFE LESSONS: INTERBOX GIVES BACK

May 15, 2007 · Leave a Comment

The story is familiar in boxing. The poor kid from the wrong side of the tracks, on the path to nowhere, finds a gym and his life is changed forever. That could be the first page of the story of Eric Lucas, former WBC super middleweight champion and current president of one of Montreal’s most successful boxing promotions companies, InterBox.

DIACONU IMPRESSIVE IN VICTORY OVER HOYE

May 9, 2007 · Leave a Comment

Tonight in Montreal, Adrian “The Shark” Diaconu showed ESPN’s Wednesday Night Fights why he is one of Canada’s top prospects.

Diaconu thoroughly dominated American Rico Hoye, beating him via TKO at :36 of the 3rd round when the referee stepped in and stopped the action. Diaconu came out super strong in the 1st, setting the mood for what was to come. He went one better in the second, and had Hoye down twice, and Hoye was lucky to finish the round. It was one of those fights when it seemed Diaconu couldn’t (and didn’t) miss.

Diaconu’s record is now 24-0, with 15 ko’s. Hoye drops to 20-2, with 15 ko’s.

The fight was a WBC light heavyweight eliminator bout. Diaconu is now on his way to a title shot against WBC’s top dog Chad Dawson.

ESPN’s Joe Tessitore spoke for everyone when he said “This is a guy you want to see again.”

ESPN will be back in Montreal twice in June, once for a GYM promoted card featuring Jean Pascal and Herman Ngoudjo on the 8th, and once for InterBox’s Lucian Bute and his IBF title eliminator against Sakio Bika on the 15th.
